Medication-Assisted Treatment (M.A.T.)
What is M.A.T.?
Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is one of the many services offered at Devaraj Behavioral Healthcare. MAT is a form of evidence-based treatment which involves the combination of clinical psychotherapy, behavioral management, and medication. This type of treatment targets opioid use disorders (OUD). MAT services bridge the gap in care by providing a combination of clinical services. Additionally, MAT is safe and effective at sustaining recovery and preventing overdose.
The goal of MAT is for clients to successfully maintain sobriety and to establish the ability to safely recover. Research has shown that this approach significantly decreases the risk of overdose, thus improving patient survival. Further, MAT has been shown to increase patient retention rates, decrease risk of relapse, and increase a patient's ability to gain and maintain employment. Medications used for MAT are evidence-based treatment options and do not "substitute one drug for another."
